RING: Exquisite PLATINUM and Diamond engagement ring. The center diamond,
measured as set, has a diameter of 6.54 x 6.50. Because of the secure,
6 prong style of the platinum head in this setting, diamond depth is
very difficult to gauge without physically unmounting the diamond, which
we are reluctant to do. Without unmounting the stone, we are comfortable
in saying that the center diamond weighs approximately one carat, possibly
more*. The setting also contains four tapered baguettes, VS clarity,
.04 ct ea for a total of .16cttw. There are also two round brilliant
cut accent diamonds, SI1 clarity, .06 ct. ea for a total of .12 cttw.
*However.....we have also provided a screen capture of a side view of
the diamond, along with a screen capture of the Dendritics carat weight
calculator using an estimated depth, which suggests that the center
diamond may weigh a good bit more than our conservative estimate. The
center diamond, with VVS-2 clarity and I - J color, faces up beautifully
and all stones possess excellent clarity. This is an absolutely exquisite
ring. |

| RING: ESTATE Vintage 1940's - 1950's OLD EUROPEAN
CUT VS2/SI1 Diamond Engagement Ring. Very desirable vintage engagement
ring. The ANTIQUE center diamond has been identified as a MODIFIED
OLD EUROPEAN CUT (very small open culet). It has been measured as
set and estimated at .96 carats. The dimensions of the center diamond
are 6.1 x 6.1 x 3.98mm with VERY CLEAN, VERY WHITE, VS2/SI1 clarity, and
top white J color. There is no fluorescence. Very nice cut and symmetry.
There are an additional .24cts of side diamonds, single cut round, top
white, with SI1 or better clarity. This antique diamond is set
in its original vintage 1940's, 1950's 14k white gold solitaire with accents
engagement ring mounting Ring weight is 1.85 DWT. Ring size is 7, and
it is easily resizeable, up or down. Total diamond weight 1.20 carats.
ABOUT Old European Cut diamonds: An old European cut diamond is an old style of faceting a round diamond by hand, in a style which enables the diamonds facets to display exceptional fire and brilliance. Old European cut diamonds continued the characteristics of the earlier cuts with their open culet, and higher crown. (A culet is a facet, a flat cut, across the bottom point of the diamond. If you look straight down through an old cut diamond it will appear to have a hole in the center. That's what's called an "open culet", meaning you can see straight through the flat cut. If we imagine that the girdle is the fattest part of the diamond, the center of the diamond, the part above that girdle is the crown, and the crown is topped off by the table, which happens to be the biggest facet on the diamond.) Old European cut diamonds with their 58 facets and high crowns are similar to the old mine cut, but while the Old European cut is round in shape, old mine cut stones are rather squarish rounds and their tables may be lower. Old European cut diamonds have a beauty and magic of their own which give them a highly desirable, particularly distinct beauty reminiscent of the bygone era in which they were fashioned. This cutting style began to disappear around the turn of the century. The modified old European cut (which is what this diamond is), displays a smaller, less noticible open culet than the typical Old European cut diamond (see typical culet size in the diagram which displays when you click on the image at right.). Measuring 6.8mm wide, this is a truly elegant and extremely well made diamond band which features matched pairs of straight baguettes set both horizontally and vertically, surrounded in a four sided border of round brilliant cut diamonds. | RING: ESTATE VERY FINE 1950's DIAMOND DINNER RING 3.22 carats VS1 - SI1, F-G. This BIG, BOLD, RING is a wonderfully lavish RETRO era Diamond cluster Cocktail / Dinner Ring with F-G color diamonds so bright they could literally light up a room. This stunning ring with marvelous VS1 - SI1 clarity, contains a whopping 3.22 carats of round brilliant cut diamonds. The larger diamonds, clustered towards the top center rings, weigh .16ct (top center), surrounded by groupings of .14ct, and .10ct. diamonds. The smaller .04ct and .035 ct diamonds are sprinkled towards sthe outer edges. The setting is 14k white gold and the ring weighs 4.35DWT and it is currently a size 6.25. | RING: ESTATE: UNISEX - 1.80cts. VINTAGE - Circa 1950's HANDSOME - CUSTOM MADE VERY WIDE, VERY HEAVY. One of five vintage pieces from the same estate we've just listed. The collection has been stored in safety deposit box for several years. This is a very wide, very heavy, very thick, custom made ring featuring a total of 9 gypsy set (similar to bezel set but mounted directly into the gold) .20ct round diamonds, a mix of Old European Cut, Old Mine Cut and Round Brilliant cut diamonds. Gold, which appears to be 18k acid tests at somewhere between 16k and 18k. A slim bar of gold has been soldered to the inside of the shank to make it smaller, which leads us to believe this massive and seriously impressive diamond ring may have originally been custom made for wear by a gentleman. We'll hedge our bets and say it could be Unisex. It's a VERY handsome ring. The bar inside the shank is removable if a larger ring size is preferable. Current ring size with the bar in place is 7.5.
