THIS IS A CUSTOM MADE 14k WORKING SUNDIAL PENDANT

From famed designer John David Cooney, this is one of only a handful of signed, numbered, (and copyrighted) working sundial pendants which have been hand made by this master craftsman in solid 14k yellow gold with a .05ct diamond.

A truly fantastic, totally unique WORKING collectors item, extremely well made and designed to be worn and enjoyed, day in and day out.

BACKGROUND: ASTRONOMICAL RING DIALS ARE ANCIENT TIME-PIECES WIDELY USED WELL INTO THE 18TH CENTURY. A GIFT TO GEORGE WASHINGTON FROM LAFAYETTE THESE DIALS ARE ACTUALLY MINIATURE FOLDING ARMILARY SPHERES A GLOBE OF THE WORLD CONSISTING OF RINGS REPRESENTING CONSTELLATIONS AND IMAGINARY CIRCLES AROUND THE EARTH.

SUNDIAL OPEN: THE UNIVERSAL SUNDIAL, A DISTINCTIVE PENDANT HAS AN ADJUSTABLE LATITUDE THAT CAN BE SET NORTHERN LATITUDES AND GIVES SUN TIME WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF ACTUAL TIME. INNER DIAL HAS ROMEN NUMERALS, JUST LIKE A CLOCK. OUTER DIAL IS ENGRAVED WITH TRADITIONAL DESIGN WORK.

BACK OF SUNDIAL . THE UNIVERSAL DIAL HAS AN ADJUSTABLE LATITUDE FOR NORTHERN HEMISPHERE. THIS IS DONE BY HOLDING THE FACE OF THE DIAL AND SIMULTANEOUSLY ROTATING THE OUTER RING BY HOLDING THE BALE. ONCE YOU HAVE SET THE LATITUDE, OPEN THE INNER RING BY PRESSING ON THE BACK. POINT THE DIAMOND NORTH AND NOTE THE ROMAN NUMERAL WHERE THE SHADOW IS CAST ON THE INNER DIAL.

Estate: From the 1950's, this is a 16.5" two-strand pearl choker with large, gracefully swirling 14k white gold and diamond clasp. Diamonds have VS clarity with G-H color. 1.05cttw. Well matched round saltwater pearls have a creamy hue with pink overtones and graduate in size from 7.2 - 7.8mm.

ABOUT THE COIN: This legendary 1908 Saint-Gaudens $20 Double Eagle (or $20 Gold Piece, as many people call it) is noteworthy for its lack of the motto "In God We Trust." When famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens redesigned the $10 and $20 denomination gold coins in 1907, his good friend President Theodore Roosevelt asked him to omit the motto, because Roosevelt didn't believe God's name belonged on coins. The public outcry resulted in quick action in Congress, and in mid-1908, by Act of Congress, the motto was restored. This coin was minted before the restoration

The $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle gold coin, designed by Augustus St. Gaudens at the urging of President Teddy Roosevelt, is probably the most famous of all American gold coins and without doubt the most beautiful. Expert numismatists, experienced collectors and casual admirers all agree that the $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle is one of the most beautiful gold coins ever minted. This beautiful double eagle gold coin is 34.00 mm in diameter and weighs 33.436 grams, was minted from 1907-1916, and again from 1920-1933. Most of the coins minted from 1929 and later never saw the light of day and were nearly all eventually melted following Franklin Roosevelt's Gold Order of 1933. Featuring a full length image of Miss Liberty on the obverse, it appears as if she is ready to step out of the coin. In her left hand is the torch of enlightenment and she carries an olive branch, symbolic of peace. Nearly missed in the background is the dome of the capitol building. The reverse of the coin is dominated by an eagle in flight with the inscriptions of United States of America and Twenty Dollars arranged in concentric arcs above the eagle.
