    PERSONAL

Son of prominant Educator (Dr. Samuel Gurin, the late Dean Ret. , University of Pennsylvania Medical School, and Scientist); brother is President of Binney and Smith (Crayola Crayons) ; married, six children (including one set of twins in college plus two young grandchildren.

    About Bob Gurin......

Our children and two young grandchildren are scattered around the country. Resident dependents are two dogs, four cats and an opinionated duck. Over the years we have lived and worked in a variety of communities world-wide. We have enjoyed most all of them.

Start-up companies simultaneously possessed of intellectual/entrepreneurial challenge and flexible siting requirements are of particular interest to me.

I am 6'3, weigh 190 pounds, have less hair than I would like; am a product of the 1950s. I stop for traffic lights at 3 AM, don't drink beyond occasional social occasions, and believe that; finishing what you start, knowing what you are talking about, loyalty, integrity and hard work are the answer to most issues. My wife is my best friend, a talented full-time business-person, common-sense product design and creative marketing expert.

My professional skills are best employed in a "get-it-fixed/running/started" environment. That's where and when I am happiest and most productive. I am strongly incentive-motivated - - compensation being related to desired results. For me, getting results works best in a flattened, open management organization. for example: As a basic policy, I require that every employee have one good suggestion/idea every week. An individual machine operator knows more about his or her 25 square feet of work space, the equipment used, and the product produced, than anyone in the organization. He or she can, and will, make enormous contributions to profits if listened-to. Costs go down, maintenance problems are reduced, quality goes up and morale, pride and a sense of "belonging" pays off for customers, shareholders and management. Technical, administrative and sales folks react the same way too.

Informal photos of Dr. Gurin and family may be found here
