Conversion of Existing Furniture
Addition of Summerlift CL (Cable Lift models)
makes conversion of an existing furniture unit to a pop-up a reality.
Here's How it's done with Summerlift Cable Lifts
- The existing cabinet is refastened as required to provide adequate structure
to support the pop up and supporting cabinetry.
- Door fronts and drawer faces are fastened (fixed) in place.
- Often, the interior of the existing cabinetry may not be suitable for direct
installation. Thus, a two part unit consisting of a four sided plywood shell
with high pressure laminate on its interior surfaces, and a "carrier" that
will raise and lower are built. The carrier works just like a drawer
on end with its open face used as the space for the item to be raised/lowered.
The carrier slides within the outer shell. Carrier sides extend below the
platform. This extension provides additional stability by having a portion
of the "drawer" contained within the outer shell.
- The appropriate Summerlift CL model is mounted below the carrier. NOTE:
they may be placed on either side or behind depending on space available.
With the combination of cable and pulleys, it is practical
to mount them to fit the space available. Components
may be separated, stood on end, laid flat or even housed in adjacent cabinetry
if required.
- Control boxes containing the remote control is shown mounted under the
carrier. Like the lifts, the control boxes may be mounted separately wherever
needed.
A two piece shell and carrier are fabricated to fit within the inside of
the existing unit.
-
Upper and lower limit switches are positioned so that when lowered, the
carrier rests on a solid surface (cleats of angle)
-
The upper limit switch stops the platform upward travel just below the
upper edge of the front.
- NOTE With all Summerlift installations,
the exterior cabinetry front and sides should be
kept 1/2" below the lower surface of the top when it is the fully lowered
position - - protecting against "pinch-points".
IMPORTANT REMINDER:
If you needed a new transmission in your car, you'd remove the old one first,
right? IF your existing cabinetry already has an
old lift in it, whether it be a scissors lift, a rack and pinion lift, or what-have-you,
you must first REMOVE the old lift before installing the new Summerlift.
